Abstract | This work investigated the relation between hydrogen embrittlement and the scanning rotation angle between adjacent layers in laser-based powder bed fusion (L-PBF) fabricated Ni. The microstructure analysis indicated that all samples failed with an intergranular mode, and all intergranular facets were propagated along the fine-grain region. However, the rotation angle during manufacturing changed the grain shape and size distribution in Ni, which in turn modified the pathway for hydrogen-induced cracking. The sensitivity of LPBFed Ni to hydrogen embrittlement is influenced by the scanning strategy, and the samples with a rotation angle of 0 degrees present the highest resistance to hydrogen embrittlement.(c) 2023 The Author(s).
