Abstract | A nickel-catalyzed semihydrogenation of azoarenes tohydrazoareneswith NH3BH3 is developed. The catalytic systemexhibits good functional group tolerance and a high turnover frequencyat room temperature. Results of control and deuterium-labeling experimentsindicate that the ethanol hydroxyl and BH3 groups eachdonated one hydrogen to this transfer hydrogenation, and the mainbyproducts were B-(OEt)(3) and H-2. Moreover, densityfunctional theory calculations indicated that the reaction proceededvia a ligand-to-ligand hydrogen transfer mechanism. This study presentsa novel nickel catalytic system for the semihydrogenation of azoarenes. |
