Abstract | Oil/water separation has become a significant environmental challenge due to the increasing oil leakage accidents and the discharge of oily wastewater. This chapter aims to present an overview of the physical processes, that is, absorption and filtration technologies, for oily wastewater (and oily sludge) treatment. The fundamentals, including the mechanisms and materials/architectures of absorption and filtration technologies, are first introduced. Afterward, the key operating parameters and performance indicators have been reviewed. Based on the recent advancements, the future perspectives of absorption and filtration technologies for oily wastewater treatment are discussed. |
